What Can You Do With Thanksgiving Leftovers

What Can You Do With Thanksgiving Leftovers

Thanksgiving is almost here! We always plan on cooking a fabulous feast, but what do we do with all the remaining food? Leftover side dishes, such as mashed potatoes and stuffing, don’t store well and will most likely end up in the trash can eventually. You can help lower food waste and save money by putting your creativity to work and getting comfortable using up those Thanksgiving leftovers instead of letting them rot in the fridge with no purpose.

Donate To Those In Need

If you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year, chances are there will be enough leftovers to feed a small army. But rather than let them go to waste, why not find a way to share with your friends and neighbors? There are thousands of organizations across the country that accept food donations during this time of year. Homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food banks, and churches are all places that accept food donations around the holidays. Not only do you avoid wasting food, but you are helping those in need.

Create Something New

If you would like to repurpose the leftovers to save money, then don’t be scared to get creative. You can make some amazing things with your leftover Thanksgiving turkey, especially if you know your way around the kitchen. Here are some easy and yummy meal ideas that put your turkey to good use:

  • Turkey Pot Pie
  • Turkey Chili
  • Turkey and Stuffing Casserole
  • Turkey and Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie

Make Pet Treats

While it’s dangerous to give your furry friends turkey bones, they can enjoy boneless turkey meat and sweet potatoes. Fido will be overjoyed to eat some Thanksgiving leftover goodies with you. Here is an excellent recipe for homemade sweet potato and turkey dog treats.

Now that you’ve got some ideas on what to do with leftovers, you can spend more time with family and less time worrying about what you’re going to do with all that leftover food. From all of us at Cumberland Buildings, Happy Thanksgiving!
