Winterize Your Shed
Winter is Just Around the Corner!
As the crisp winter air begins to blow chills across your property, you start to gather your patio furniture and random yard decor and carry it all to the shed for winter storage. When you open the shed door, two conflicting thoughts enter your mind: "It sure would be nice to make the shed into an outdoor winter getaway; you know, just to get out of the house from time to time..." followed by, "Good grief! How did I accumulate so much stuff; I can't even turn around in here!"
Both thoughts are reasonable, and thus demand a reasonable amount of consideration!
Make It Work for a Winter Getaway
In order for your shed to be a comfortable environment during the cold winter months, it has to have one very important element; heat. You'll have to decide whether you want that heat to come through a rustic wood stove, an electric heater, or perhaps propane. If you're going to go with a more modern heating method, check out product reviews to find the right heater for you.
If your shed is not insulated, now is a great time to get that done! First of all, you will be emptying the shed out anyway... to get it all organized before winter... right? So, while the shed is temporarily empty, throw some insulation on your walls and ceiling, cover it with your preferred choice of paneling or sheetrock, and you are ready to start organizing the contents of the shed!
Creating Your Environment
As you go through that enormous pile of stuff that you removed from your shed, set aside any items that you no longer need or use and consider sending them to a new home. (If you are putting any gas engine machinery away for the winter, be sure to add fuel stabilizer when applicable.)
Installing bracket shelving on the interior walls of your shed is a great way to keep things tidy and in order; it will also give you more floor space to set up a work bench, workout equipment, or... an overstuffed chair and TV!
